SNAFU Minor

The Shingles

The design/build concept touted by MyHome has the architect, project manager and general contract all communicating on a regular basis to keep a project within budget.  In our case this concept failed miserably.  One example is the extra thick "Grand Canyon" shingles that the architect proposed to help win plan approval from local building authorities.  Unfortunately, the architect, Spearman Architectural Design, did not discuss this feature with MyHome's project manager, who later refused to approve the order.  Each day spent haggling over price meant another day of exposure to rain.

Contract with MyHome agreeing to provide rough materials as "finalized by plans approved by the Village."

Item 9 of Contract specifically includes "Architect grade 50 years shingles."

A Touch of Irony

The final "compromise" was to shingle the back of the roof with low-grade shingles and pay $1,500 in "extras."  Ironically, we paid for the entire $3,985 order with our credit card, none of which MyHome repaid.
