Exposed Beams

 

Our final roofing plans, discussed and documented on site with the architect, project manager, general contractor and framer on July 30, called for exposed rafters in keeping with a Craftsman style home.  The workmen, however, apparently didn’t get the message and assumed any exposed nails or short rafters would be concealed behind trim board. The result was dozens of nails sticking through the rafters’ sides and pronounced gaps where the headers, rafters and plywood failed to meet.

Aug. 4, 2008 - Two of over 100 nails that missed their target.  Since rafters will remain exposed, each nail needs to be individually trimmed.
